Avatars? how about em? Can they be done with phpBB? I think they add personality which is er, you know, good. 
With tight requirements they should not take a lot of place on your server, I've seen avatars in the likes of 800x600. These are overkill. Maybe something like max 20 kb, 70x70 pixels should be more than enough...
Anyway, this is a crazy idea I got... How about it... Anyone?

Just came back from your site... Kewl one, but could we upload a particular
avatar? I got one sitting on my HD, 3.14k 49x49 so it's not like it's taking a lot of place...
