dragon slayer 2 freezes

I'm new to all this and am hoping it is a simple fix. I get the intro and the cinema perfect, sound is good... but it freezes exactly when I push a button to continue past the first few words when the maid is waking you up. The little cursor thing disappears and it freezes. I am using an English translation of the rom. Could this be a problem? I don't speak good Japanese... like none at all, so...

You mean Legend of Heroes 2? I haven't heard of any English patch released for that game.

Also I assume you're using the default Magic System 3, which is known for having many compatibility issues. Try again with a real System Card 3 ROM (aka. Super System Card). A search for "syscard3.pce" on Google should get you started.
