Buttons assigned but controls still do not work in game

So I load up Rondo of Blood from a cd I burned, press run button and the opening cinematics work. I can't skip the intro, so i let it load and then it says press run button. After that it goes to the screen where you enter a name and thats when my controller/keyboard do nothing. I cant select the player profile or do anything. Please help
