I'm trying to load the book of YS game but I can't get passed the "backup ram" screen. can anyone help?

I'm not familiar with the US version. But I suppose you're trying to run the game for the first time? What does this "back-up ram" screen tell you exactly? Maybe you need to format it. You can do this by going to the BRAM management screen (press Select button on the System Card title screen) and using the third option (Format BRAM).

You may be pressing "Select" instead of "Run".
Double-check your controller config. ^_^
