|
|
I just purchased a SNES to USB adapter to play Magic Engine with a SNES gamepad, but for some reason I can't configure buttons X and A on the SNES gamepad.
This is what the configuration menu looks like. If you notice, buttons 0-3 are listed twice. Buttons 4-7 aren't listed.

I'm running Magic Engine 1.1.3 on Windows Vista.
I recently acquired an SNES adaptor for my SNES controller and have been able to use it successfully in a handful of emulators. Windows also correctly detects all buttons on the pad.
However, when running Magic Engine, I see a behavior similar to what unit3uk observed. Buttons 4-7 aren't shown and buttons 0-3 are duplicated.
From the log file:

Any ideas on what could be going wrong? Is it a bug in ME?
Thanks,

Are you using an adapter purchased from RetroZone? For whatever reason Magic Engine doesn't detect the buttons correctly with the RetroZone adapter. I think it works with version 0.99b5.
If you want an adapter that works with the latest Magic Engine use a SmartJoy SNES adapter. You can also purchase an SNES USB controller made by Buffalo that works great. |

Yes, I am using the adapter purchased from RetroZone. Given that the adapter works with all other programs, I'd prefer to have the issue fixed in Magic Engine.
I'd be more than happy to run a private at some point to either gather more diagnostic information or to verify a fix. Please let me know.
Thanks,

Joy2Key! It's a freeware program that converts joypad input into keyboard events. You can make Magic Engine think you're using a keyboard but you're actually using a game pad. I use this all the time with a usb->Playstation adapter, it works great, and it's free. |
